Loke Woh Yuen Vegetarian Restaurant (六和园素食馆) *CLOSED DOWN*

*Not sure where this place has moved, but it has closed down according to sources*

This restaurant has been around for the last decade and Im quite glad to still be able to eat traditional vegetarian dishes, which these days are not common anymore.
Went with irene & her beau yesterday for lunch after yoga... and they too enjoyed the dishes!

Hot & Spicy Tofu $8

Called 麻辣豆腐 in chinese. However, it is not spicy at all, hence suitable for all. I love it as there are a mix of button mushrooms and straw mushrooms, blending well into the spicy bean paste. You may just have this dish alone with rice.

Cereal Abalone Mushroom $10

The abalone mushrooms are mixed into a special batter and deep fried till golden colour. Then, it is served piping hot with grinded cereal. I love it as it is really crispy, and is comparable to the one sold at Lao Di Fang (Middle Road)

Stir Fried Dou Miao $8

The Dou Miao is not over-cooked and tasted really fresh. I hardly find dou miao in most restaurants but am glad to eat it here. Also, I find it quite unbelievable that they do not have our usual sambal Kang Kong available here. All the vegetables are stir fried. Hence, you might want opt for a non-spicy veg here.

Sweet & Sour Pork Ribs $12

The only mock item i've ordered for the day is the sweet & sour pork ribs. Not too bad, but I did not adore too much of the mock meat.

Dessert $3/bowl

We ended lunch with sweet desserts. As they have 3 types of desserts (Black Sesame paste (hot); Mango Pudding & Almond Jelly) available, We order one each to try, and all turned out to be a sweet surprise, as they are able to bring out the desired taste.

The reason why I say traditional is because there isnt much mock dishes available here. Most dishes are cooked using Vegetables and Mushrooms. There is not much to comment on the decor of the restaurant as it has your typical chinese restaurant. The only thing is the location, as it lies in the middle of Tanjong Pagar and Outram. Approximately 10 -12 mins walk from either stations.

Location: 20,22 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088443

Tel: 6221 2912

Opening Hours: 11am - 3pm; 5.30pm - 9pm

Loke Woh Yuen was the only few resturants i could go to in the 90's when i first become vegetarian and dating place.

Long time didn't go there, thanks for reminding me of the old traditional veg. restaurant.

Cheers :)

Is Lao Di Fang (Middle Rd) you refer to, the one near Shaw towers, beside Pte Sch? If it is, Sad to inform you, is no longer there. I think only one left is at Apollo Centre. Hope it will be able to survive as long as possible, I do love its dishes espy the Spicy Noodles.

Loke Woh Yuen is also one of those few restaurants that operate during 1st day of Lunar New Year, always a 1st choice in mind when deciding to dine out on that day.

Cheers:-)
