Miao Xin Vegetarian 妙心素食 @ Bukit Timah (Former Xin Man Yuan)

Xin Man Yuan (formerly @ Chinatown) has since moved to Bukit Timah and rebranded themselves with a new Name - Miao Xin Vegetarian.
Ms Veg was in the West and decided to make a trip to this newly located cafe. Note that Parking can be difficult, as there's only parallel along the shop houses, or further up at courts. No free parking.

The new Cafe Name
Its a smaller outlet compared to its previous location which is now replaced by Miao Yi Vegetarian (Formerly Coronation). They are still under the same management I think. it was dark and I couldnt take the entire cafe picture.

Simple Cafe Design - You can choose an Al Fresco setting or air conditioned sitting.

The Menu
Other than rebranding, their menu is almost brand new as well! Also, most items are more economical now.
Here's some of the pages taken.

Most of their Patrons ordered the Congee set which comes with a claypot of Congee and 5 small dishes to share.

Kway Chap $1
Decided to order the Kway Chap instead as the porridge portion was bigger. You can order the sides separately. While the Kway was smooth, ms veg finds the soup a little too sweet, as I have expected it to be saltish instead.

Braised Tau Kee (Beancurd Sheets) $2
Juicy~

 Braised Tau Pok $2
Yums~

It was Chili that saved the Kway Chap~ yummy and spicy

Crispy Duck $8

The Crispy duck does not contain any mock meat as it was basically mushrooms wrapped in beancurd sheets and deep fried with a batter. I find the skin a little hard, but it was still ok with the sauce (甜面酱) and lettuce. $8 is a cheap deal.

Double Mushrooms with Salted Egg $8

Salted Egg is the hottest item these days and if there is anything a Must order from Miao Xin, it has to be this dish (NOT VEGAN). There's 2 types of mushrooms fried in batter and coated in salted Egg sauce. It doesn't look that fantastic but the taste blew me away. It was so good that it would make this cafe famous for its salted egg dish. hehehe~

There's still so much to try from Miao Xin and am glad that the prices are not too ex. They do charge 10% Service Tax as well as GST 7%. Even their laksa is cheaper than clover's one.

The only sad thing gone is the dim sum that Ms veg now has to go HK or Macau to satisfy her craving.

Xin Man Yuan Vegetarian Restaurant (心满圆素食) @ Chinatown *REBRANDED AND MOVED to Bukit TIMAH*

Hello All, we are finally back in Singapore and again we are always excited about new openings. It feels good that we are having a lot more options these days! Just this year alone, we have SuFood.. which ms veg has not went, we also have beyond veggie! I was informed of this new opening at Chinatown and decided to head down because the word "dim sum" attracted me! Other than lingzhi, there aren't many places that serve vegetarian dim sum.

So here we are for the yummy dim sum!
Outside of the Restaurant
 Interior of the Restaurant
Quite classy, and definitely can sit a lot more people than the Miao Yi rest at coronation plaza. I was told they can fit 35-40 big round tables!

Buffet Spread $18.80++

I had the buffet previously, but the dishes were not a lot, as compared to Lotus. However, they do allow you to order additional 6 types of their famous dim sum, which makes the buffet price worth.

This is the list of dim sum that comes with the buffet. One may order up to 3 times.

They too serve ala carte dishes, mushroom steamboat pot (@$58 per pot for 3-4pax)

I was craving for the Har Gao (aka shrimp dumpling) so i decided to bring my parents for a second round today. We decided to order ala carte dimsum, which comes in a separate dim sum menu:

Dim Sum Menu!
The dim sum menu has many more items (20 over) for us to choose!

Price range from $4.50 (3 pcs) onwards for each item.
 Seaweed Beancurd Roll
Unique, wrapped with mushrooms. Its a little oily since its deep fried, but still good!

Taro
One of the better made versions, the yam was amazingly yummy and the ingredients are good!

*Har Gao (Shrimp Dumpling)*
If you ask me what made me go back to this place within a week - its this har gao! Its sooo good, im already drooling again as I type. The skin is wonderfully thin, and ingredients aplenty. There's even veg prawn in it, making it chewy and unforgettable. I have not eaten anything of such taste before!

Pan Fried Dumpling (Guo Tie)

Siew Mai
Another of my favourite is Siew Mai too!

Char Siew Bun
My mum likes this char siew bun - she commented its comparable to Lingzhi's!

Mushroom Spinach Dumpling
Amazingly good when I didn't expect much from it.

Char Siew with Parsley Chee Cheong Fun
I found the skin could be a little better, but well, this is good enough. They have another one with mix vegetables ingredients but it was not available today.

Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice
 Filled with loads of Fillings

Mushrooms Mix Dumpling

Carrot Cake
Carrot cake tastes ok.. but Yuan Xiang's is still my number 1!

We ate a total of 10 dim sum dishes, tea, and the braised peanuts (appetizer, too yummy that we finished eating before i remember to snap a pic!) and it cost us a total of $70, which i find rather reasonable.

As they are just newly open, so they are still making adjustments and changes to their dim sum menu, and i was truly happy that i need not travel to HK for the dim sum as this can temporary satisfy my craving for now!

I was lucky to be able to chat with one of the owners and found that this new restaurant is under the same "MiaoYi" group, so some of the dishes (e.g the famous suckling pig) are also available here!
Another piece of good news is that they are going to open a cafe style (vegan + vegetarian) outlet at Kallang Leisure Park this coming October.

Beyond Veggie by Secret Recipe @ Greenwood Avenue Singapore

I have been really ignorant as Beyond Veggie has been around for a couple of years in the Malaysian market. It was a recent trip to Johor Bahru (KSL City Shopping Centre) then I found this place. Recently they opened a franchise in Singapore and I am pleasantly surprised.
I read up about them, and found that they have mentioned in their website as well, they are a meatless/vegetarian outlet, but NOT vegan, as some dishes do contain, milk and eggs (diary products). I believe the cakes that they serve are not eggless too. So, if you are vegan, do enquire before heading down.
Anyway, i'm combining both my JB visit and the Singapore visit in this post since the menu is the same, except for price differences.
It is not known how and why Secret Recipe decided to spin off a vegetarian dining place but looking at the number of outlets/franchises they have in Malaysia, i guess the market has been receptive and supportive.

KSL Outlet
KSL Outlet
This is the KSL outlet. I didnt take the photo in Singapore, only the interior.

SINGAPORE Outlet
This is the interior of the Singapore Outlet. It is definitely not easy to find, as it is located within the vicinity of the private houses in Bukit Timah, Hillcrest Road. Although they are just opened, it was actually quite crowded and a reservation is recommended on a weekend. I think it is good at other than Miao Yi, at least there is another option for vegetarians in this Area.

Some Menu Snaps

I tried to save the menu from the web, but it was too huge. Here's the menu if you are keen: Beyond Veggie Menu. Do note that the prices stated in the web is in RM. The prices in Singapore is between the range of $10-$15 for the dishes. They serve a wide range of food, including chinese and western cuisine.

Mushroom Satay
This was the first time i had satay that doesnt comprise of mock meat so this was a pleasant surprise. This is made of monkeyhead mushrooms! The sauce was good too!

Calzone Pizza
Ordered this appetizer. Tomato paste, mix vegetables and cheese wrapped in a prata skin.

Yunnan Style Bee Hoon
We tried this in KSL previously. I have no idea why it is called Yunnan style. Nonetheless, it didnt taste very spicy, and the bee hoon wasnt too dry. Served with Mushroom Satay.

Stir-fry veg of the day with Balacan
Love it. Really Fresh!

Mahogany Tofu
We tried 2 types of Tofu so far. I can't explain what's mahogany, but in chinese its called "香椿". A little strong to taste in the sauce, so some people may not like it. I personally find the Tofu in Malaysia is better than Tofu in Singapore though. The gravy has a lot of mushrooms and the veg version of "lard", also known as 花形 made from soy protein.
Spicy Thai Sauce Tofu
I strongly prefer this as the sauce was not spicy at all, and goes well with rice.

Deep Fried Shredded Mushroom
This is abalone mushroom deep fried in special batter and served with pumpkin floss. I couldn't make out it was pumpkin floss and had to relook into the menu!

Assam Curd Cutlets with Eggplants & Long Beans
We ordered this at both outlets because this dish really impressed me. The gravy is really yums. I ordered it again in Singapore because I wanted to intro it to my mum. She is an expert in Assam Fish, so she really enjoyed this version, but she termed it as nonya style compared to the real "assam". The curd cutlets are made from Beancurd sheets, which is actually similar to the mock "Fish". This is my favorite dish to date!

Desserts!

Its Secret Recipe, how could we not have some desserts before leaving? Didnt order any Cheesecake as I was unsure if there was rennet. The Pure Chocolate cakes are heavenly!

Cute Fan

Was trying to get a name card from them but it was not ready so they gave me a cute fan. I really love the quote at the back!
