VeganBurg @ Jalan Eunos

I was very excited when I saw this pamphlet in the goodie bag during the veg-vibe magazine launch.

It has been a really long time since I sat down in a fast food restaurant and munch on a burger. I was very happy that someone has stepped up and did it - opening a whole new vegan burger restaurant right at our doorstep.

Today is the soft-launch of VeganBurg and I can't wait to try it. I called the confirm the opening date as the website initially wrote the launch date in Oct. I was surprised that the lady on the phone was not only polite, but she even bothered to check my blog and follow up on email. Thanks Joey for that little thought. Anyway, not everything on the menu is available as of now, as the official opening date would be in October.

*from opposite the cafe*

I was still wondering if they repainted the building, as the cafe uniform and the logo matches totally.

*upclose - Cafe Exterior*

*Interior*
Interior of the cafe was furnished with custom-made furnitures. I was told that the theme was to follow that of a industrial-safari style, which could probably answer the reason of the colours (Green, White, Brown) combination used. The cafe was pretty quiet and airy perhaps due to its high ceiling. There were not much seats, which i guess because it is not the official launch yet. I guess going there in the evenings would be a better choice as the ambience would be better. If you do drive there, do note that parking may be a problem as there isn't much parking lots nearby.
There are only 3 types of burgers available at the moment. Hence Shan and I tried the 2 types that do not contain onion/garlic.
Interesting Serving tray that gives you certain information about veganism while waiting to be served.
Here comes our burger sets. Rather interesting concept that our burgers and fries are served in a mess tin. I quite like it as the staff handling the food to you would not accidentally touch the food since there is a handle. In addition, its easier to throw once you are done eating. However, I wonder if this would scare the army boys away.
Tangy Tartar Set Meal $9.85

I'm not sure if there would be a change in the price as the website stated this at a dollar more. For a set, you will get a burger, fries and juice of your choice. I had the cherry berries juice which tasted sweet-sour. The set is huge! It is highly recommended to share a set if you are a small eater. This burger comprises of a soft patty covered with specially made batter and deep-fried. I was surpised that the patties do not contain gluten, dairy, GMO, preservatives and transfat, yet it could still taste chewy on the inside and cruchy on the outside. The fresh lettuce and alfafa goes well with tartar sauce as well. The organic wholemeal burger bun was soft, but would be better if toasted. The best of the set that wow me and shan was the seaweed fries. It was served really hot (which made the wait worthwhile). The potatoes are soft and the seaweed taste was not overpowering. Note that the chef has confirmed this does not contains any onions/garlic!
Cracked Pepper Mayo Meal $9.85
Shan had this cracked pepper mayo whereby the bread organic ciabatta made with sunflower seeds, walnuts and pumpkin seeds. I could taste the sweetness in the bread. The patty was spiced in black pepper and lightly pan-fried and served in mayonnaise. I was not exactly able to differentiate the differences in the patties as they may be of the same ingredient but cooked different in various sauces.
The rest of the burgers would be ready by October.
All in all, a new experience for me and I would definitely return for the fries when i have the time. If you ask me about the service, I would say extraordinary, as they are willing to go the extra mile to ask what else is there to improve. May not be your usual $2 economical rice fare, but for once in a while indulgence, for the environoment and for the support of local vegetarian/vegan market, why not? They do catering and delivery as well. Please call for more information. Parents, your kids will love you this once and instead of the M word, they may say: "Papa, I wanna go Vegan Burg for lunch!"
(Note: they do not start that early for morning breakfast though)

Xian Long Vegetarian Delights @ AMK

This is introduced by another passerby (not sure if you are the same person) who has asked me to try the Noodles here. This is also a 24 hours outlet that offers quite a variety of dishes.

Fishball Mee Pok Dry $2.50

I tried the Mee Pok Dry since it was passerby's recommendation. The noodles was quite chewy. Ingredients comprise of vegetables, mushrooms, mock sliced meat and fishballs. I didn't like the taste of the fishballs as it was rather bland. I personally find it nothing really special, but would definitely try the wantons next time i go!

Other food items: Nasi Lemak, Laksa etc

This is a place you can consider if you have hunger pangs in the middle of the night since this stall operates 24 Hours!

Onn Vegetarian @ Kallang

I remember a couple of months back "passerby" asked me to try out the food at the stall near to Kallang MRT via my chatbox. Since there are many "passerby"s here, i'm not able to identify the exact you. I would like to thank you for the good recommendation. My friend and I totally enjoyed it.
This stall is located in a coffee shop at the foot of the HDB blks beside the MRT. Do note that there are 2 coffee shops here, so this stall is inside the coffee shop that is facing the main road.
Onn Vegetarian sells a wide variety of food ranging from Dry Noodles to laksa, kway chap, dumpling soups as well as some tze char dishes. Business is good perhaps there isn't much vegetarian places nearby.
Stall front

Quite a big stall and I was glad to see many customers eat from their stall.

Wanton Noodles $3

I tried this Wanton Mee as I've heard it was not bad. Indeed, the sauce was not bad.. noodles was chewy as well. I personally liked the cha siew as it was quite well marinated. As for the wantons, the ingredients wasn't a lot and I was eating more skin than ingredients, which I thought was a pity. The stall owner shared with us that the wanton was homemade by themselves. Overall, the taste was okay, but I hope that there would be more ingredients in future.

Kway Tiao Soup $3

Gwennie had kway tiao soup which comprises of beancurd, fish slices, vegetables and beansprouts. I liked it as well as the soup was very tasty.

Dumpling Soup $4

The picture of this was very tempting and we both loved dumplings. Sadly this was not handmade but brought from suppliers. The taste is pretty standard which the ingredients comprise of celery, cabbage, mushrooms.

Popcorn Chicken $5

This chicken is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Super delicious and it looked like popcorn chicken.

Location: G5 Food House, Blk 5 Upper Boon Keng Road #01-01 (5 mins walk from Kallang MRT station)

Inflight Meal - Singapore Airlines

Here's another inflight meal that I had when I went beijing for work early this year.
Do note that if you are travelling, most airlines cater to vegetarians, however do make your reservations for vegetarian food on board when you purchase your ticket.
Anyway, for Singapore Airlines, they have quite a number of vegetarian options available. I usually request for Oriental Vegetarian. They do have vegan or indian vegetarian meals as well.

Inflight - SG - BJ

One thing good about making early meal reservations is that you are usually the first to be served before the rest. The only drawback is that we do not have any menu to choose, so you are to eat what you are served. I guess there are different meals served on each different flight route.

The Main

I was happy with the main as it was what I like! The main comprises of stir fried yee mee with mock meat, vegetables and carrots. The mock meat is known as "猪肝" (aka pig's liver) cooked in veg oyster sauce. If you are a fan of liver, you can get this from most vegetarian suppliers. My mum's version is usually with lots of ginger slices cooked in dark soy sauce.

Salad

For the salad, I was served with tomatoes, asparagus, bambooshoots as well as abalone mushrooms. All are well steamed and lightly marinated with salt. Quite refreshing.

Dessert

I love the dessert most. This is lychee jello with orange. The jello wasn't too sweet.

I'm surprised that I ate the entire meal, perhaps it was suitable for me. Now im anticipating for the next meal on my next flight..SQ has not disappointed me so far.. If you have had other better flight meals, do take some pictures and post a review! I'm contactable at my email on the right.

Nian Ci Guan Yin Vegetarian Stall @ Geylang

Nian Ci has relocated to Geylang, same blk as Guan Yin Vegetarian, but different coffee shop! The soups are back in action! YAY!

New Stall Look

Other than serving the usual mixed vegetables rice and economical bee hoon, the tze char and dry mee is a must try. I've never tried 炖饭 (steamed rice) before and decided to give it a try.

"Dun Fan" $4

There's choice of Brown or White Rice. I Opted for the brown rice as it is healthier. The ingredients comprises of cooked veg mock meat with yam and steamed with brown rice. It is served with cabbage on the side. The yam was very well cooked and not too soggy. I couldnt make out what the mock meat was but I guess its suppose to represent roast meat. Aint too bad since this was served hot.

Dry Noodles $3

Gwennie loves the wanton dry noodles of all time. Portion is big and the sauce for the noodles is really good. I personally find it better and cheaper than Vege Sensations. One thing good is, the stall owner is very generous with the ingredients!

The stall owner realised that I was going to write for her, so she asked me to go back again today so that she can cook her specialty for me to photograph. I was touched by her sincerity and generosity so I went back a second time.

Nasi Briyani $3.50

Auntie cooked this specially for me, nasi briyani! She learnt this from a malay friend previously. This is dedicated to sunnietart since she is a mega supporter of nasi briyani! Please note that if you visit her stall the portion would not be so big. Served with spicy curry mutton, chicken cutlets and tempeh. Auntie wanted to try something special so she mixed chicken with mutton. The chicken was okay, but was a bit bland. Tempeh and rice tasted good with the curry sauce. Anyway, auntie would be changing the chicken to cereal prawn as I personally do not think the chicken and mutton complement. Definitely value for money. I can't wait to try her cereal prawns.

Other Must trys: Homemade Yong Tau Foo

Diet: Vegan, no eggs

Location: Block 134, Geylang East Ave 1

Su Man Yuan Vegetarian Stall @ Plaza Singapura

Finally a post on Su Man Yuan @ PS! The stall is located in the Kopitiam food court. I'm really happy that there is this stall for vegetarians now. In the past i used to think that orchard road is the most vegetarian unfriendly place. These days, its good to see certain changes and with the long queues during lunchtime, I really hope Su Man Yuan can stay for as long as possible.
What I've always like about su man yuan is the quality assurance they've got. So far my favourite is their stall at Suntec which even has Brown Rice Porridge!
The food at Marine Parade is not bad as well.
At PS, there is also quite a selection of the dishes daily as well as tze char dishes.

I ate laksa on this day as I wanted something really spicy.

Laksa $3.30

In comparison with other stalls, the ingredients here are lesser. Some places do have Beancurd and Char Siew included. Here they only gave me a few slices of Tao Pok and Fish balls. The soup is good but fattening as lots of coconut milk is added.

Do note that during their busy lunch hour, they would not be able to cook the tze char dishes for you, hence you can only choose to eat the mixed veg rice. I didn't mind that since there is free soup!

Diet: No Eggs, but some dishes do serve with mayo on top.

Other dishes which I like: Lor Mee

Location: 68, Orchard Road, Plaza Singapura, Level 6

Iwannagetstuffed Vegetarian Restaurant @ Kallang Leisure (素芳斋) *CLOSED DOWN*

*CLOSED DOWN* I heard they relocated to Tampines, but not serving veg anymore.
I read on the opening of this new veg buffet place on the forum and I decided to try it out before Jay's concert last saturday. I was surpised by the shop space as I was thinking it might just be a small little cafe. The restaurant itself occupies approximately 3 shop space and can accomodate as much as 40 pax. It is seeing a reasonable crowd on event days. Layout of the restaurant is simple and bright.
It is a new and interesting concept for the entire place to offer nothing BUT only BUFFET. I met one of the manager who used to be working with loving hut. He mentioned that everything is vegan, with minimal mock items and there is no garlic & onion in all dishes. I even asked him for the ala carte menu, but there was none. The catch here is, there is no specific timing for buffet, meaning, as what the name suggests "Iwannagetstuffed", you can eat as long as you want, as much as you want. For a price this low, it is recommended that you starve yourself for 3 days, and from the opening till closing time, sit there and get stuffed.
One Price $12.90

I have no idea if there is any Child Price, so you may want to call before going. This is just some of the dishes and they vary every day. There is a blend of 20 over East and West cusines available.

Salad Bar

My own Salad creation

I loved how the braised peanuts taste!
Eddie's creations. The dishes include fried noodles, Spagetti, Olive Fried Rice, Hash Browns, Tofu, veg and even Chwee Kuey, Chee Cheong Fun included.

Diet: Vegan, No Onions & Garlic

All in all, this is not a bad choice to come but do not expect interesting dishes like those served at quality hotel. I personally like it as they keep changing the dishes. This is more of our usual fare but do note that drinks are not inclusive. You may just get plain water like we did.
Since it has only opened for a month, there is still room for improvement and I do hope later on they may have ala-carte menus available.
Location: 5 Stadium Walk, Kallang Leisure Park, Level 1-/33/34/35

Opening Hours: Till 9pm daily
